It was Martin Luther King Jr who once remarked: ‘At the centre of non-violence stands the principle of love’. This short film by Journeyman Pictures – aptly named ‘Settlers for Peace’ – investigates love in action. The Israeli and Palestinian, Jew and Muslim, seek to understand one another and to explore their different perspectives in a nonviolent atmosphere. What is captured on film is inspirational and an exemplar of what is possible when violence is eschewed. There is nothing new in this discovery; after all it was Gandhi himself who said: ‘I have nothing new to teach the world. Truth and Non-violence are as old as the hills’. It is a pity that we are often such slow learners.
