Immeasurable Beauty: The Earth From Space

The stunning video below  (posted courtesy of Youtube) features a series of time lapse sequences photographed by the Expedition 30 crew aboard the International Space Station. Set to the song “Walking in the Air,” by Howard Blake, the video takes viewers around the world, through auroras and over dazzling lightning displays. Watching it brings to mind these beautiful words from Psalm 19:1-2

‘The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge’.

  1. I have a mixed response: The city lights look beautiful, BUT they are a form of pollution! And they prevent us from seeing far more beautiful lights, the night stars. When I was a kid, I slept outside in order to watch the stars and the Perseids on hot August nights. The Milky Way was fully visible and we did not live in the mountain wilderness, but in the city suburbs. We have lost much and it scared me to call the city lights “beautiful.” Am I allowing myself to be seduced by Sirens?!
